  • Enactus is a global organisation which aids University students start and develop Social Enterprises. Presented to 700 students and representatives from top UK and international companies such as Unilever, HSBC and Amazon at the ‘Enactus Nationals Expo’, competing against 32 UK Enactus teams, reaching the final 4. • Deliver weekly training workshops on project management for social enterprises to 40 fellow students. • Holistically oversee 7 local and international projects maintaining regular meetings with Project Leadership setting long term goals.   • Represented the University of Exeter at the iGEM 2019 international genetic engineering competition involving synthetic biology projects from across 400 universities. • Produced, as a team, a microplastic capture and degradation system utilising engineered enzymes to degrade microplastic fibres released from clothes during washes. • Built relationships with industry partners, such as Miele, a leading washing machine manufacturer, utilising their expertise to inform design choices and integrate their technology with or filter. • Was selected to present the project to a panel of international judges at the Boston 2019 IGEM Jamboree. This alongside our website resulted in our team winning a gold medal in Hardware, and Entrepreneurship awards. Show less

  • Led a team of nine students in ‘The Urban Mushroom Company’ Ltd. The enterprise tackles food waste by utilising waste coffee grounds as a growth medium for gourmet mushroom strains. UMC utilises vertical farming and automated environment-controlled spaces to grow and sell gourmet mushrooms. The equivalent of a 7-hour 747 flight worth of GHG emissions is prevented with each batch. • Secured start-up funding of over £8000 from Ford Trust, NUS and the University of Exeter as a result of grant applications and pitching. • Through proactive networking and negotiating with key individuals within local businesses, government, and charity sectors, successfully secured rent-free central office space and entrepreneurial support from the Santander Universities team. • Implemented and trained members on key project management processes to allow for effective project operation and leadership handover.   Completed the 5 week Plant-Based and Cultivated Meat MOOC, developing key knowledge on some of the main barriers to scalable Cultivated Meat production, the inefficiencies of our current livestock agriculture systems and climate change and biodiversity impacts associated with conventional meat. • Researched 3D printing cellulose scaffolding fused with growth factors for Cultivated Meat structural applications. Attended the video conference ‘Cellular Agriculture: The Future of Food’ with representatives from GFI, Aleph Farms and the Cellular Agriculture Society.   During July 2018 I participated in the WindAid Institute’s four-week Group Project which aimed to provide clean electricity to developing communities in Peru. I built electronic components, manufactured blades and lead the installation of new generation turbines. Alongside volunteering, I worked with the WindAid management team to develop and launch their ambassador scheme. This involved preparing a user-friendly google drive for the ambassadors, translating documents from Spanish to English and presenting it to the rest of the volunteers pitching the scheme. As a result, we were able to light up the houses of 2 new families as well as building the framework for many more volunteers to work on the project also. Show less
