The Mergui Archipelago has it all, isolated beaches, crystal clear waters, an aquarium of sea creatures and ubiquitous sunset cruising Half a dozen resorts were functioning by early 2020, international competition, and a small domestic market are a challenge for this fledgeling industry. To sit comfortable with 21st-century travellers, resorts must be seen to be, running an environmentally sustainable business, while looking after the local community and still provide a 5-star service. There’s a massive logistical challenge to setup the Mergui Archipelago as a sustainable tourism destination. Logistics, supplies, staff & guest movement all have to be built up from nothing. When something as simple as a pilot for boating has only recently been published. Getting the best financial returns, with sustainable marine activities and local development, when the options are endless and the market untapped, is a challenge, one I’m looking forward to - contact me. I have worked in the Yacht industry for more than half my life most of it outside New Zealand. I worked in business development in the UK for a few years before returning to the yachting managment industry in Asia. The last few years have been simultaneously training crew and overseeing a refit in Myanmar. Launch will be early in the New Year and then on the water in the Archipelago, developing the charter and training market. Still in its infancy, most chartering in SE Asia is in Myanmar and Indonesia. Tourism is rocketing and new developments are happening all the time.
