John was a true visionary for Staples in the area of Supply Chain Management. Staples was a very successful company, and no one was thinking about managing the supply chain. John was able to see the future and he knew that the time had come for Staples to begin to focus on its supply chain. He was able to communicate this with senior managment, and gain consensus that this function needed to be integrated within Staples core business areas. He was given the task to run the newly formed Supply Chain/Logistics Group, shape its organization and its goals and objectives, and hire accordingly. Although John moved on eventually to manage other supply chains, he left Staples with a strong supply chain base, which has grown as a function, and become an integral part of Staples everday planning to this day. I had the privlege of working with John at Staples during this time.
