I worked with Joe in two different capacities over a period of about four years. In the first, Joe was the publisher of Truthout and I worked under him as development director. As a boss, Joe was kind, patient, funny, and always willing to take the time to mentor me and ensure I had what I needed to be successful in my job. More recently, I worked alongside Joe as part of Truthout’s management team where I learned from and was supported by him and his years of experience in management and high level of skill in editing, fundraising and communications. Any organization would be lucky to have Joe as part of their team.

I have worked with Joe Macare for the past six years at Truthout. Joe is an extraordinary thinker, an excellent writer, a brilliant strategist, and an exemplary colleague. I have been grateful to be able to collaborate with him closely over the years, and he's played a vital role in building and growing Truthout. Joe possesses a rare combination of keen political analysis and promotional/PR know-how, along with finely honed skills in fundraising, project management, editing, social media, marketing, and writing of all types. I've learned a lot from him, and have improved and grown in my own role through our collaboration. I wholeheartedly recommend Joe for future positions and projects related to any of his wide range of skills!
