Joel worked as a Product Lead on the Motherbrain team for almost a year. He has a strong methodology and is thorough in his research. With Joel’s experience and integrity I was always confident that he had the actual problem in focus. He was great to work with and I would love to work with Joel again!

Marin M.

Joel has been the best, most knowledgeable User Experience specialist I’ve had the pleasure to work with so far. He has an uncanny ability to envision the whole product, consider avenues that are not obvious, draw inspiration from just about anywhere, and in general think from first & second principles, instead of succumbing to the latest fads on Dribbble. Joel takes care to remove the fluff and to understand what is the heart of the problem. Not only that, he makes sure the team is working on the right problem, not just any problem, and that’s a skill worth its weight in gold. Combined with his tenacity, perseverance (it takes hard work to write & publish TWO books), and general good spirits, Joel makes for an excellent Product Lead or Head of Product who can be trusted to direct and manage himself. He comes as highly recommended as it gets.

It's quite rare to find a talent that stand out like Joel. I had the pleasure to work with him on a new product our company was bringing to the market. With his forward-looking, yet down-to-earth vision, he transformed a concept loosely described by words into a cutting-edge, easy-to-use and beautiful product. His work was not limited to creating a great visuals - on one end he turned product requirements into exceptional UX designs, while closing the loop with us - the engineers - on the other. He can stand his ground and defend his vision, which proved to be the right direction all the time. I sure hope I will have the opportunity to work with Joel on another product again.

It was a good concept and I was excited to work on it, but unfortunately the company’s progress in other areas did not match expectations and I decided to move on. Work performed: Defined a product strategy and 3-year roadmap for a shift to a business model that was more scalable, more cost-effective, and more competitive. Performed user research & interviews with customers, colleagues, and the broader competition to define product priorities and future direction. Performed an extensive competitive analysis from both a product and brand perspective. Designed and specified UX wireframes and product design for new versions of the product, with the goal of making customer adoption faster, enabling viral customer acquisition, improving internal automation, and solve some particularly tricky GDPR challenges. Developed a strategy for a completely new marketing/positioning/brand strategy. Designed the first formal process for product development and QA testing. Two years after this work, Scrive had grown almost 1000% and was acquired by a private equity firm.
