Joe is an outstanding marketer with a broad base of marketing knowledge which can be applied in many directions. He's a rock solid worker who is just as comfortable in an office team as he is working remotely from home. Productivity and focus are top notch, and he's a super quick learner, with particular strength in martech and analysis. Passionate and empathetic, Joe is fantastic at understanding customers' needs and applying the right marketing solutions to build a strong leads pipeline. The best thing about Joe is his adaptability, which he proved at Active Adventures by moving through various roles and projects. He can basically apply himself to whatever you need... a very valuable attribute.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Joe since February 2017 when I hired him to join our Marketing team. During that hiring process Joe really stood out, with his background in English Studies and Adventure Guiding – an excellent combination for a career in Marketing & Tourism! That experience - his refined copy writing skills and knowledge of New Zealand, meant he was able to contribute from day one and he quickly gained responsibility within the team, showing his agility and willingness to learn. Joe has a huge amount to offer to any team. He is a great listener, tactful communicator and highly dependable. He is not afraid to roll his sleeves up to get stuck in and works well autonomously. Being surrounded by a multi-disciplinary team, Joe has developed into a well-rounded digital marketer.

As Business Analyst for H&D my core responsibility is to understand how a client business operates, and work with them to find efficiency and improvement across everything they do. Usually it’s with the help of Hubspot, a CRM software which is becoming increasingly capable in CMS, Marketing, and Service areas, and is extremely capable with regards to integrations. The role is heavily data focussed - often in the process of moving a client from their previous CRM onto HubSpot, we'll export their data, clean it up, and then import to HubSpot. A key aspect of the role is writing documentation (briefs), for data migration and data integrations. We have an in-house dev team so I'm expected to brief them in when a custom integration is required for a client's solution. The discovery process always includes mapping API endpoints between systems. Show less

Following the hibernation of Kiwi OE, the other business owned by the Directors of Remarkable People, I was fortunate enough to be offered Digital Projects Manager in RP. In this role I was responsible for analysing current processes and technologies, and managing process change. I love making work lives easier by opening eyes to the possibilities in automation and digitisation - because we don't know what we don't know. Significant wins in this role: - Installed Google Analytics via Tag Manager, and measure key website metrics for the first time in the company's history. - Took website goal conversion rate from 1.75% to 5%+ by simplifying our most popular form, and the page path to it. At the same time we reduced form drop-off from 74% to 17%. - Established customer lifetime value metrics for the first time in the company's history. - Built performance measurement dashboards in Google Data Studio and implemented monthly reporting to the board of directors. Unfortunately, the reality of a lengthy Trans-Tasman Bubble closure means Kiwi OE is going to 'hibernate' for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, eventually, it will return and get back to helping local businesses and intrepid travellers connect. The Directors of Kiwi OE are also the Directors of Remarkable People, and I was fortunate enough to move across to that business as Digital Projects Manager following the hibernation of Kiwi OE. The Kiwi OE BDM role was a very busy one, and I worked completely autonomously, reporting to our directors on a fortnightly basis. In this role I was the only employee, and was responsible for: - Formulating the business model and taking us from an idea to a revenue generating reality. - Working with designers and developers to create the brand and build the website. - Build the user journey, email automations, and workflows to manage leads in Hubspot. - Integrations via Zapier with Outgrow lead gen forms, Stripe, and Hubspot. - All B2B networking and relationship building, as well as partnership proposals. - All reporting, budget management, cashflow projections, profit and loss reports. - All B2C communications with leads interesting in taking the Kiwi OE journey with us. Significant wins: - Successfully building a business which generated revenue from a standing start. - Automating lead management by building three levels of email automation and custom properties in Hubspot. - Created an eye-catching brand and an excellent website, with help from designers and developers. - Built strong relationships with the hospitality industry in the Queenstown area. This role was a massive challenge for me and I'm extremely proud of what I acheived. It's difficult to encompass all that was involved in the process, but I'm grateful for the trust our Directors showed in giving me the role of BDM, as someone who came from a purely digital marketing background. This role was disestablished due to Covid-19 in July 2020. 90% of Active Adventures' revenue came from overseas pre-pandemic.Biggest wins in this role include: - Project managing a branding 'facelift' for Active Adventures. This included a new logo, favicon, colour set, fonts, destination 'marks', and tone of voice documents. - Establishing a B2B marketing strategy in collaboration with the trade sales team. - Establishing a roadmap for product development so that the same process was repeatable. - Contributing to a B2B agent training process. - Establishing staff benefits with our suppliers. - During my time in this role and my previous one with Active, Digital Marketing Specialist, I was the leader of the Environmental Sustainability Team and was responsible for ensuring this international brand was finding as many manageable approaches as possible to operating with little or no footprint on our planet. I loved it, and we made great progress. Active Adventures are still industry leaders in this realm. Show less

Biggest wins in this role include: - Pitched a successful business case for Drift chatbot technology on the website. Built conversation workflows and improved website UX by allowing the visitor to get answers to FAQs fast. We also improved lead volume by creating a new softer lead type, and integrated Drift and Mailchimp to make newsletter sign-up seamless.- Agile project management, and coordinating in-house devs on front and back-end projects. - Established presence as a business listing on an international, high-volume site, and grew qualified referral traffic by 31%.- Built digestible dashboard-style reports using Google Data Studio. Reports included key stats such as referral traffic volume and conversion rates. newsletter KPIs, and social media engagement and audience growth. I used several different connections to pull data, including multiple Google Analytics properties, and Google Sheets, - Project management of multiple web development projects, including: an in-house replacement for Google+ Collections after G+ was decommissioned. Another project created the functionality for our site to build 'on-the-fly' PDFs which pulled the contents of a selected page into a PDF document available for immediate download. - Data analysis project to establish whether posted or emailed brochures had higher conversion rates to sale. Made recommendations based on the results for how the business should move forward. These recommendations led to an uptick in revenue of roughly $1m. - Silverstripe CMS page building work. Built and launched new destination and trips on the website, created all the necessary CMS data relationships, added all content, tested, and sent live. Show less

As Marketing Coordinator for Active Adventures my role involved the creation of new content for multiple websites, as well as the day to day maintenance of that content, and of our business listings on third party sites. I also managed social media accounts for several businesses, and was responsible for interactions on various platforms with potential customers. Aside from those, I was also responsible for maintaining, editing, and updating lots of items of print and web collateral related to the products we offer. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to write engaging, informative content in a way that is succinct. I also feel as though my communications skills are very good, and enjoy working as part of a communicative team to solve problems and develop a business's potential for success. I believe I work best when given the creative freedom to brainstorm new ideas for content and the delivery of messaging. I also enjoy the opportunity to look for ways to improve current systems, as opposed to being tied to simply maintaining the processes already in place. At Active Adventures I enjoyed that creative freedom. Show less
