Responsible for the smooth running of imprint teams by completing editorial tasks, administration and supporting my line manager, the Publisher, who publishes across three very different imprints – Hutchinson Heinemann, Cornerstone Press and #Merky Books. I therefore have experience of working on literary fiction and non-fiction as well as self-help, lifestyle and business books, and developed the high standard of editorial and administrative skills required to handle working across these very different lists simultaneously. I was also responsible for fast-paced and daily diary management, including making and managing external event bookings and internal meeting bookings. I carried out office administration, customer service, agent liaison, invoice coding, author support, monitoring of copyright infringements, minute-taking for multiple weekly meetings across different imprints, and regular, accurate Biblio database management. The most technical parts of my job were creating profit and loss accounts based on home sales and international sales figures as well as marketing and publicity spends, entailing clear and regular interdepartmental liaison. As the main support for the Publisher, I was also given significant responsibility for managing deadlines for titles along the critical path. In this capacity, I had to devise my own systems for managing tasks and ensuring other departments such as production, finance, marketing and publicity were kept up to date on progress for each title. Other day-to-day tasks included arranging out-of-house editing, legal reads and illustration, collating TCM Bookscan sales figures, writing accurate and compelling cover copy and editing books, organising and attending project meetings, maintaining metadata, and ensuring copy feeds out to Amazon accurately.
