At this British curriculum led Italian international school I held the role of Year One class teacher. The present language barriers at this school provided a stimulating challenge to overcome and thus led to me feeling much more confident in delivering education to children with English as an additional language. Furthermore, I relished the opportunities to lead whole key stage music assemblies and coordinate music for the end of year drama production. Entrusted as a class teacher in the SATs assessment year, year two, I was challenged to deliver great results from the children, which I subsequently achieved. Here I held the additional role of drama coordinator. I was also responsible for extracurricular activities, such as Djembe (African drum) tuition, running the school choir and a performing arts club. The frequent moderation meetings with other schools, and training during these years, has given me a greater and sharper understanding of assessment as a whole for reading, writing and mathematics. From the experience built in Music College I began privately teaching the drum kit to students of various ages, from seven to thirty five and continued to do so until the commencement of my Education degree course, with just a short break to teach in Italy. Whilst gaining much musical teaching experience I believe this has also developed my one to one teaching and the ability to build a good rapport with the student. At a Swiss summer camp I taught music and assisted children from a wide range of countries, aged 7-17 years. The large size of the camp and number of staff enabled me to develop skills working alongside people of different backgrounds and specialities to deliver an excellent educational and enjoyable experience for the children. Working throughout Italy, I taught English to Italian children aged between 6 and 12, in a classroom context. The educational progress and safety of these children were my responsibility from nine until five for each of the five days that I was present in that location. Afternoons involved working as a team with the tutors of other classes to set up and organise educational activities and competitions.
