My role at Caterham School revolves around the day to day running of the 1:1 iPad scheme for around 1200 school owned devices and any additional personal BYOD devices. This includes all insurance and warranty replacements, ensuring all apps comply with Data Protection and storage requirements, training for staff and students and ensuring all paperwork is in order for the insurance and leasing agreements. I also manage several suites of Apple Mac devices used in different subjects using several packages such as Apple Profile Manager, Deploy Studio and Munki. For controlling the Macs I am also responsible for creating and deploying custom packages to install new apps and updates. Aswell as the above I also support the staff with use of devices in lessons with subjects such as how to safely store and transfer work to the network, which apps meet their needs and what to expect when using these apps. I also provide support for the Macs and troubleshoot any issues domain users have with these devices. The macs are a combination of desktop and laptop and a mixture of shared network devices and standalone non-network machines. I have created procedures to ensure the devices are setup the same to allow consistency for our end users and ourselves when administrating these devices.I maintain reports to ensure that at the end of the lease all devices are returned and I also work closely with the HR/finance team to ensure no devices are taken by any leavers.

Our school has recently started a 1:1 iPad roll-out for the students and staff which has required me to learn how to use configuration profiles and troubleshoot issues with iPad devices. To ensure that all jobs are completed efficiently it is important that there is clear communication between all of the team members.I am also responsible for ensuring a record is kept of all iPads and which student is responsible for them, assisting the finance team in the return of iPads if students leave the scheme and processing any insurance or warranty claims with our iPad provider. When iPads are replaced under warranty or insurance I need to ensure that all security markings and labels are on the device before it is setup again and returned to the student.

Whilst working in this role at Blenheim High School my day largely consists of managing issues reported through our online helpdesk and issues reported by staff calling the office. These can vary from printer jams to classroom equipment failure. I also ensure each morning that the servers have all backed up correctly and troubleshoot any problems that arise during these backups. Our school is an RM CC4 network, and so I regularly use RM tools such as the management console which allows control of the machines on the site. There are also several machines that are not linked to the domain and require routine maintenance such as updates and custom software instillation. The school has a variety of machines running Windows 7 and Mac OS X Mavericks. My team is also responsible for assisting visitors set up for events such as training or presentations. There is also a lot of administration required as all assets must be logged in the school database when replaced or moved.Outside of normal school hours I undertake tasks such as installing new cabling for network points and telephones, re- organising server cabinets to ensure the most efficient use of the space available after new servers have been added and carrying out asset audits to assist the network manager in ensuring the school is following all the necessary licensing rules. The servers used within the school are a mixture of Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Mac OS X Mavericks.

During my apprenticeship at Sutton council I was positioned in an administration role within the Family Support and Care Planning team. I worked daily with sensitive information so understand the need for data protection. This position also presented me with opportunities to develop skills in communication, team work and administration. I used many advanced features in Excel and Word and had regular use of Outlook. I also had to learn how to use many different data-storage programs. Whilst working with the team I developed a spreadsheet to ensure all social workers completed their casework within the allotted timescales by creating a spreadsheet with colour coded formatting based on previously entered dates. This was used by the team leaders after my time with Sutton Council to monitor their teams’ compliance with timescales.

Whilst working at Comet i gained a lot of key experience with working in a team and gained good experience of using clear communication skills to explain the different varieties of technology to customer with varying levels or understanding. I was also able to develop a greater understanding of Apple products by undertaking product knowledge training with hands on experience aided by official online Apple training (ASTO). Whilst working at Comet I worked closely with the customer services department and assisted in finding faults with returned equipment and assisting customer's in setting up their new purchases.
