I joined in September 2018 to build out finance and related capabilities, and both drive and be part of our growth story. It was an amazing ride with a fantastic team, and over the course of two years as well as driving revenue growth, margin, and scaling the team, raised over £30M. At Plum I managed the full operational side of the business, strategic finance, hiring, HR, legal and facilities. Show less

Back then Space Ape had one game released and one in development, and by the time I left had four released and nine opportunities worked on for the future, having over tripled in the number of people and found new digs (twice). That on top of the run rate increasing ten fold and a successful acquisition of the company by Supercell in May 2017 by way of a strategic partnership. Success has many fathers, and I definitely didn't make the games (I still play them whenever I can though - naturally). What I brought as the first full time finance leader in the business was stability, knowledge and insight. Finance teams should not drive the commercials (the games would be less fun and successful games if it did). But what Finance can do is inform, strengthen and complement all parts of the team across the business. At Space Ape I built a small team with outsourced support, put in place detailed multi-segmented reporting, ensured maximum tax credits were claimed, created a robust reporting structure, and focussed on producing both reliable cash forecasts and aspirational growth forecasts. As CFO I took on office operations, legal and HR functions (though I was lucky working with an awesome exec team including an ex lawyer as COO, and a culture/HR master as CEO to help guide and decide).

London, United Kingdom I started at King as the UK Financial Controller as the twenty-fifth employee in London. Over the course of working at King my role changed to suit the business, moving first into the Group Consolidation function then being promoted again six months later to Assistant Group Controller. I hired, developed and handed over a UK finance team, and then grew the group function. My learnings from King are too many to number; technical, growth focussed, environmental and managerial, but the most important for me is how if you see a need, a problem, an issue, it is really an opportunity to make things better. It's was a dynamic, fast paced but ever fun environment where there was always a new and interesting challenge on the horizon. King undertook an Initial Public Offering on 26th March 2014 to trade on the NYSE whilst I was Group Financial Controller.
