  Since 2006, upon request, I conduct accreditation validation visits of family child care providers in the process of pursuing national accreditation status. The process includes observing for evidence of the provider meeting the accreditation standards, providing evidence when these standards are partially or not met, and interviewing the candidate after the observation session. In July of 2017, I was selected from a national pool of candidates to join the NAFCC Accreditation Advisory Council. In this capacity I worked with the other Council members to ensure accreditation standards were research based and reflected best practice within the field of early childhood education. I co-authored the NAFCC’s first ‘position paper’, on the importance of low caregiver-child ratios, served as coordinator of the Council workshop presentation on the importance of low child:adult ratios for the 2018 NAFCC annual conference, in Chicago.
