Part of the LGBT Age Scotland project, I am responsible for delivering the Befriending Project in Greater Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Lothians. This involves managing the recruitment, induction and supervision of a diverse team of volunteers who provide individually tailored befriending to a range of LGBT people (50+). * Managing all the core work of the befriending service such as referrals, assessments, waiting lists, matching, reviews and on-going support for individual befriendees and befrienders. * Managing endings, risk management and safety issues. * Working extensively with a wide range of stakeholder groups, including health, housing and social care providers, to generate referrals to the project from individuals and organisations. * Using a range of monitoring and evaluation tools so that the service can clearly demonstrate its impact and that agreed outcomes are met.

I designed a national volunteer project from its inception. This included all aspects of embedding the ethos of volunteering into an organisation which hadn’t formally used volunteers before; recruiting a national base of volunteers; overseeing volunteer roles, rotas and support and supervision; training staff to line manage volunteers. Developed a national mentoring programme, as well as a volunteer counselling service into our Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dumfries services. I was contracted to work in both Cornton Vale and Polmont YOI, to co-design and establish mentoring services within the prison environment. Ongoing monitoring & evaluation of work. Attendance at Volunteer Network Meetings and ongoing CPD.
