Bio
Gerardo Ruiz-Mercado
I had the great pleasure of mentoring Jose during his two years as a Research Fellow at the @U.S. EPA. Jose started a project from scratch, did fast learning to create a computational framework for tracking chemicals and releases at industrial end-of-life activities. This work supports our Agency's critical need for chemical risk evaluation to protect human health and the environment. Jose was always enthusiastic, outstanding, bringing ideas and practical methods to achieve goals, responsible, and focus on getting results and exceed our needs. Also, Jose has a positive and great personality, which makes it pleasant to work and advising him. Finally, his seven presentations at national and international technical meetings and four first-author peer-reviewed articles during two years are strong evidence of his outstanding professional and personal skills. I look forward to continuing work and support Jose during his Ph.D. and promising successful professional career.

I had the pleasure of working with Jose while he was an ORISE fellow at USEPA. He quickly gained a deep understanding of some of USEPA's emissions inventory systems and demonstrated excellent Python programming and documentation skills, making excellent contributions in the our Standardized Emissions and Waste Inventories tool while also doing great original research into chemical waste management chain modeling. He also has a great personality that makes him fun and engaging to work with.
