In the PhD a new immunotherapy strategy to treat high grade gliomas was developed at a preclinical level. Using whole tumor lysate fragments conjugated to nanoparticles a nanovaccine was created. Showing in vitro potential was followed by successful testing in both an established and a new mouse model. Finally, improvement of the nanovaccine was pursued by adding adjuvants.During my PhD I have developed a number of skills improving my competences as a researcher. I acquired an expertise in immunology and techniques used in the field e.g. tissue culture, flow cytometry, ELISA and western blotting. I improved my scientific and critical thinking as well as problem solving skills by integrating nanotechnology, as a potential new treatment modality, in the flied of immunotherapy for oncology. During my PhD, good time and project management were very important as multiple experiments and projects had to be performed simultaneously. On top of that, I supervised multiple master thesis students, which further demonstrates the necessity for project management. Finally, progress in presentation skills were obtained by regularly presenting my results at the lab and at international congresses for an audience of renowned scientists.
