As a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian I work within an interdisciplinary team to offer group and individual nutrition education to adults living with Type 2 Diabetes, pre-diabetes, obesity, vegan/vegetarianism, nutrition for a healthy pregnancy, etc. My role as an educator and lifestyle coach involves supporting and empowering individuals to make healthy food choices, lead an active lifestyle and meet their personal health goals. I take an "all foods fit" approach to care with emphasis on creating individual plans based on client need e.g. eating well on a budget, cultural preference, chronic disease management, etc. Within my role at soahac, I have contributed to the initial application, development and implementation of soahac's diabetes education program, after-school program, Good Food Box and garden project as well as the reporting and evaluation for each program. For several years I acted as the diabetes education team facilitator where my responsibilities included reporting, strategic planning and leadership. Additionally, I have been a community collaborator on a research project entitled "The Food Choices Study", a Western University research study that examined food choices among Aboriginal families living in urban London vs. a local First Nation community.
