Oak Point Partners is the private investment firm that pioneered the "Remnant Asset” deal and has remained the industry leader for over 15 years. A Remnant Asset can be any known or unknown asset (not previously sold, assigned or transferred) in a commercial bankruptcy, assignment for the benefit of creditors, receivership or out-of-court winddown. Our deals are sometimes misunderstood because fiduciaries assume there must be identifiable assets of value for Oak Point to explore a deal. In reality, most of our acquisitions close with no known assets remaining. Our business model is premised on the chance that something like an old deposit or refund may turn up or escheat to a state years after all known assets are liquidated and the case closed. Oak Point Partners has completed deals in over 1500 cases around the country, including Borders, City Sports, Collins & Aikman, Fleming Companies, Refco, and Service Merchandise. Importantly, our deals make sense in almost every distressed situation and provide a hassle-free, final closure for the company, its fiduciaries, professionals and courts.
