Jocelyn Rice has the Midas touch–everything she does is executed with care, creativity, and excellence. I had the pleasure of working with Jocelyn at Design Museum Everywhere, in a few different capacities. In our first interaction, she was an advisor to the We Design project that I was working on and the project benefitted greatly from her vast knowledge of art and design. Her background in outdoor apparel design has equipped Jocelyn with the unique experience of being a leader and navigating spaces and institutions that have historically excluded Black people and people of color. As an advisor she would share stories that were not rooted in a deficit narrative, rather, they were stories that reminded us of the great need and possibility for representation and change within the world of art and design. She later joined the Design Museum as the Director of Design Thought Leadership (and is now the Director of Education and Community Engagement), and in this position, Jocelyn gave the museum new life with her vibrant personality and stellar ideas. She immediately jumped into the position and began connecting with stakeholders, developing strategies to promote the mission of the museum, and planning interactive programs, workshops, and events to broaden the community of Design Museum patrons. Jocelyn is the kind of leader who takes initiative and is unafraid to think outside of the box. I miss working alongside Jocelyn and have been greatly inspired by her joyful demeanor, her diligent work ethic, and her commitment to creating change in the world through art and design. Anyone would be lucky to work with a true leader like Jocelyn Rice.

From her work on the Built Oregon Board to that leading Black Earth United, I've had the amazing opportunity to work and collaborate with Jocelyn over the past 4 years. Joceyln has that rare ability to combine critical thinking, design intuition and empathy in her decision making process. This allows her to bring people on board with ideas—even people who were initially on completely different pages. From strategic planning to creative visioning with purposeful outcomes, I can't recommended Jocelyn enough.
