NERC Project: Peatlands and the global Carbon cycle during the past millennium: a global assessment using observations and models. The project investigated carbon accumulation rates in peatlands over the last 1000 years to provide information on peatland ecosystem dynamics and their role within the global carbon cycle. Feedbacks between peatlands and climate were investigated which enables more accurate climate projections. Main responsibilities included production, management and analysis of datasets; Development of laboratory protocols, and determination of machine and user errors.

Main responsibilities included the management of the topsoil testing service. This involved client liaison, proposal writing, soil sampling, data analysis and report writing. Interpretation of laboratory analysis results for topsoil and ameliorants. Conducted regular mixing trials for topsoil manufacture, most commonly to create a product compliant with the British Standard for Topsoil (BS3882:2007). Regular site investigations included Soil Resource Surveys to assess the suitability of site-won soils for re-use and advising on their management.
