Joanna is a truly gifted photographer. She's passionate, caring and immensely concerned with the honesty of her photographs. She is one of a select few photographers capable of making images that transcend the moment and become something much more. I'm honored to have photographed alongside her and I've learned an incredible amount. Her thoroughness and attention to detail is one of her greatest strengths. But more importantly her relationship with her subjects is paramount. You will find no one better whether it's on assignment anywhere in the world or it's your wedding day.

Joanna and I met 10-years ago when she volunteered to hang a show of pictures from her Girl's Stories personal project at the National Press Photographer Associations convention. Since then we had the opportunity to work together photographing weddings several times. Joanna is a pleasure to work with as she prepares for a wedding with the same passion and dedication she does for her National Geographic magazine assignments.

Working with Solar Sister fulfills a dream of taking the talents and skills I have developed over 36 years and working with a dedicated team supporting women entrepreneurs, improving the lives of women, girls, their families, and their communities in Africa. The African women we work with are enterprising, sharp businesswomen, and dedicated. My job is creative and challenging, creating social media, blogs, newsletters, photography, and video, including media support for our partners. The work includes core areas: gender equity in business, supporting women and girls, access to clean energy, climate change, health, and sustainability. I am proud to be a member of this team. I work closely with clients to successfully plan and execute storytelling photography for humanitarian, editorial, corporate, and non-profit clients. I love working with organizations to tell the story of their work through photography. I can come in as a photographer to work on a campaign or as a teacher/communicator to lead your team to improve their photographic storytelling. I am nationally known for being the go-to photographer for intimate and authentic storytelling. Clients include National Geographic Magazine, Agilent Technologies, Smithsonian, The Nature Conservancy, Solar Sister, Bristol, Myers, Squibb, and National Wildlife Federation. Show less

As a Scripps Fellow at the Center for Environmental Journalism, my project centered on HAP and the effect of cooking over open fires in the developing world, how the use of clean cookstoves impacts the lives of women and children, deforestation, air quality, and poverty. I took graduate classes in Environmental and Science Writing and Reporting, Public Speaking, Narrative Non-Fiction, Data Journalism, Short-form Video, After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, basic coding, and weekly seminars on current environmental topics. The fellows are selected in a competitive process for the prestigious Scripps Fellowship, which allows fellows use of the facilities of the University of Colorado and a generous stipend for one academic year.
