I have worked with Joanna Paris for over 3 years now. We’ve worked together in many capacities, including as colleagues with the American Red Cross, and professionally in the Volunteer Engagement Field. Ever since I have known Joanna, she has proven to be the type of leader that we should all strive to be. She has all the hallmark qualities of a true leader, including high-level critical thinking, compassion, empathy, drive, and the ability to switch between being tactical and being strategic when needed. She consistently represents all the principles of SWARM Leadership in her work. Most of all, she is a leader that people want to work for – being both fair and just, and someone who brings people up with her as she grows. She is very big on developing individuals and ensuring recognition is applied where deserved. Joanna is extremely smart, and while much of her experience is in volunteerism, she has demonstrated time and time again considerable knowledge in all aspects of leadership and has the leadership skills to lead teams effectively. She’s always been one of the leaders I would choose to have on my teams. Joanna has shown that she is willing to help where she is needed. These experiences have led her to be well-rounded and understand organizations at all levels. On a personal note, I’m thankful to call Joanna one of my friends. She keeps me accountable, both to myself and to the organization. She is an avid supporter of my sometimes-crazy initiatives and is always willing to collaborate or brainstorm when asked. She’s also willing to be direct when needed and has ensured that I haven’t made major missteps.

I've had the pleasure to attend several events managed by Joanna and her team for the Special Olympics Alaska. I cannot say enough good things about how her team operates under her guidance, and how fantastic these events are from both the participant and volunteer standpoint. Joanna is professional and personable, delivering on the goals and mission of the Special Olympics. It’s so good to have had the chance to work with her!
