Bio
Ted Perkins
I worked closely with Joan for more than five years on the Oregonian's ad-service team and, when I left the Oregonian in the fall of 2000 to launch the Portland Tribune, she was my first hire. Joan is a gifted illustrator and designer with a keen eye and an uncanny knack for visual story-telling. But I don't care about any of that. The reason that I loved working with Joan is that she is a rock-solid, nuts-and-bolts, production ninja who is cool under pressure and can be counted on to come through when the chips are down. It doesn't matter what you throw at Joan, she's got you covered -- and she'll do it with a smile. She consistently bangs out top-quality work while the clock is ticking -- and I've seen her do it time and time again. Joan is a consummate professional with an exceptional attitude and I can't recommend her strongly enough.
Jacob Quinn Sanders
Joan is quite simply a genius designer and a pleasure for even a word person like me to work with. No matter how complex or subtle the subject matter, she found consistently the best way to distill it into powerful visual elements and make it pop off the page. She makes everything she touches better. I'm proud to have spent my years at the Portland Tribune working with her so often.
