Jo's insights and analysis are crucial to my work as a communications professional. He gathers insights and analysis on our email campaigns which inform us on what people are engaging with, what they aren't engaging with and how we can make improvements. He was also part of a reasearch project looking into employment of people who are blind or have low vision - this in depth research looked into the barriers people who are blind or have low vision face when looking for employment and as a result, they are less likely to gain employment compared to people who are sighted - because of his reasearch, we were able to tell that important story with New Zealanders and challenge people's perceptions on what people who are blind or have low vision can do. He is an extremely capable researcher. I trust his skills 100%, and I admire his integrity. Not only that, he is a pleasure to work with and will make a great colleague! And just as a side note, he is so patient and accommodating with my incessant questions about Microsoft Excel!!

I credit Jo as one of the biggest contributors to my ability to tackle complex problems with data. When I was first learning to ask and answer research questions, Jo pushed me to look deeper and find the real story. This has been invaluable in my digital marketing work where I am designing and executing informal research on a daily basis. I'm beyond privileged to know such a fun, considerate and talented researcher.

MoleMap is New Zealand's largest provider of skin cancer screening services. With its advanced imaging technology and highly trained melanographers, MoleMap helps hundreds of Kiwis every year to identify signs of skin cancer before it spreads. As Marketing Analyst, my role is to analyse which of MoleMap's marketing activities work and which do not. My analysis is presented to the Chief Executive on a weekly basis, and it exerts a major impact on advertising, marketing communications and pricing decisions. One of the main challenges of the role is in integrating diffuse, sprawling data sources, built up haphazardly over several years, to create a single, reliable source of truth to provide answers to important business questions. This is the second insights position I have occupied in the health sector (after serving as Research and Insights Manager at Blind Low Vision NZ). This experience has enabled me to gain an understanding and appreciation of certain sector-specific aspects of research and insights in the health space. In particular, I now have an extensive background in listening to the voices of older customers who might be more difficult to reach through the online and email channels researchers usually prefer to use. Sitting in the Analytics & Business Intelligence team, my principal objective was to make sure that every dollar is both raised and spent as productively as possible. As a non-profit, Blind Low Vision NZ works hard for the money it raises and the size of the population it serves is large and continually growing. Whether in client service delivery, guide dog raising or thought leadership, the Analytics & Business Intelligence team helped the organisation achieve a lot with relatively little. My work included: - Cost of service analysis - Identification and measurement of meaningful KPIs - Fostering and maintaining organisation-wide data integrity - Using commercial and research data to deliver actionable insights that inform decision-making - Financial forecasting and modelling - Managing the Voice of the Customer programme (CX) - Regular reporting both to the Leadership Team and government departments for whom we work Show less
