Laboratory Assistant Manager - Microbiology
-
Aug 2016 - Mar 2018
Dairy product testing- Managing staff in a microbiology and raw milk lab in quality, local and export testing of dairy products. Complying to IANZ and MPI-RLP standards. Had eight staff members, with six on roster and two on Monday to Friday. The lab tested many powdered milk products, raw milk, butter, in-line process controls and environmental samples. The lab also made and validated the media it used for testing, along with calibrating the equipment being used. It has been a challenging position but also rewarding with the changes made and the continuous improvement seen in the lab. I learned a lot and have gained experience in dairy testing to add to all my other microbiology experience. I would not have left my position but for a personal reason, I made the decision to resign. I was in charge of four technicians in Sealord's Microbiology laboratory. As a team the lab and staff assure quality checks of product, both for local and export markets. I was also on the consultative panel for MPI - Laboratory Approval Scheme for the Seafood Industry. In April 2016 the company had a restructure of management and I was made redundant.
