My job is wide and varied, ranging from editing a weekly business supplement - commissioning articles, designing the product and subbing it - to doing the same with a monthly travel supplement and weekly property supplements in a daily and five weekly titles. I have just relaunched our glossy business magazine, now called The Business, with a fresh new feel. I came up with the design concept, decided on what sort of content we wanted and made sure the product came to market. Since issue 1, published in December 2017, the buzz around the magazine has grown and we are now all set to launch the South Wales Argus Business Awards on the back of it. For the last 13 years I also edited the very successful Monmouthshire County Life magazine and also during that time edited two business magazines, an interiors magazine, a monthly magazine for the city of Newport, a quarterly for the Vale of Glamorgan, a quarterly for Cardiff International Airport and latterly was consulting editor for the monthly Voice magazine for south east Wales. Senior Reporter
-
Dec 1988 - May 1999
Over the eleven years I worked on the Argus I was a senior news reporter both at head office and in the Chepstow district. I then trained to be a sub and page designer. This role saw me launch new features platforms in the paper and create a successful property section. Trainee reporter running the Malmesbury and Tetbury edition as a district reporter based in Malmesbury. During my time here I passed my NCTJ proficiency test to become a senior reporter. Before I worked here I was a trainee on the Warminster Journal for nine months and a trainee on the Dawlish Gazette and Teignmouth News for six months. Between those two jobs I spent a while doing work experience on GWR Radio in Bristol as a radio journalist, a role I had previously carried out for a month on Moray Firth Radio in Inverness in 1983.
