I believe in surrounding yourself with people who push you to be better and work harder. Jim is a great product designer, with a drive for continuous improvement. Above that, however, Jim uses his vision for great experiences to motivate others. The teams and executives Jim works with perform better because of his ability to take their contributions to the next level. It is simultaneously inspiring and motivating watching him work alongside development to translate customer needs into products. He also has an ability to understand where a process will improve outcomes and where elbow grease is the missing element. His willingness to drive impactful design into products separates him from his peers.

Jim is the kind of designer engineers, product managers and owners dream of working with. He takes time, care and is obsessive about creating a beautiful experience for the product. A traditional designer is given a vision from an Informational Architect to then go implement, yet while at DoApp, Jim went far above the role of a designer. He was the one looking at the landscape for our products, investigating how we could better get ahead through experimentation, then working directly with engineers on his designs to make sure the product was the best it could be. Products that work and are beautifully implemented start with the designer crafting simple metaphors that the end user will understand. Jim is a master of this.

The team sharpened their teeth on highly interactive user interfaces, we used sound, complex transitions and animations. From there we learned how to build scalable, turn-key SaaS products; building apps and administration tools to manage, customize and deploy to various markets. Before we were acquired we had already sold two mobile platforms. The first was a health tracking platform developed with The Mayo Clinic. The second was real estate platform built for the MLS all the way down to the agents. Newscycle acquired DoApp and their mobile news platform into their portfolio in 2016.
