I started working with Jay soon after Wiley acquired Sybex in 2005. We were a small, efficient, and profitable team working out of Wiley's San Francisco office while Jay worked out of the Indianapolis office. Although Jay was new to the Sybex team, he quickly became a champion of our commitment to quality and strong customer service. Jay was a savvy brand manager, a strong customer advocate, and a creative marketer. As the publishing industry evolved, so too did Jay. As the editorial team embraced new digital content formats, so too did Jay embrace new digital marketing practices. He was instrumental in Sybex's transformation from a print-based, retail publisher to a multi-format, multi-channel learning content provider. Jay's creative marketing instincts were always soundly grounded in the realities of the customers we served. He wasn't susceptible to technology hype, but chose selectively from appropriate technologies to reach customers and keep Sybex positioned to take advantage of available opportunities.
