  The European Capital of Democracy Initiative will build a strong network of Cities that will foster participation; a platform for hope, and for exercising the will and power to change our world for the better. Together with citizens, politicians, and institutions we will improve our democracies. At the July 2022 deadline date for submissions, 22 cities* from 11 countries have responded to the call and applied for the nomination to become the first European Capital of Democracy (ECoD). https://capitalofdemocracy.eu/

  NEOS, which I co-founded, is Austria’s most successful political start-up since WWII. The Lab is its think & do tank, with at the time 12 staff and a budget of €1.3m. The programme comprised policy work, events, trainings and the prototyping of participative processes. As Founding Director, I designed the organisation, and with my team made it Austria’s most innovative and high-profile party-political think tank. 2016 we conducted 196 highly-rated public events and trainings with 3,449 participants in total. In 2017, we helped NEOS successfully re-enter parliament and gain in vote share. In 2017 and 2018, I was quoted as a political expert in The Economist and the Financial Times.

It has 27,000 Fellows in 101 countries and a total revenue £8m, with 100 staff. As Head of Fellowship Services, I was responsible for a revenue of £4.4m and 15 Staff. I led the strategic restructure of my department and the wider organisation incl. corporate IT. This led to a 3-year high in Fellow recruiting and a 7-year trend reversal in retention.
