Peter McBurney

I worked closely with Jinzhong Niu in the development and operation of the TAC Market Design Research Tournament (the CAT Game), which was first run in 2007. Jinzhong was lead software developer for the JCAT platform used to run the game. He is a superb software engineer, and has been very customer-focused in the development and maintenance of the platform throughout our work together these last 4 years. He is also an excellent research scientist in Computer Science, particularly in his domain of computational economics and the theory of electronic markets and auctions. I believe he has a great research career ahead of him in this area, either in academia or in industry. I have no hesitation in endorsing his work and recommending him both as a research scientist and as a software developer. Jinzhong is also a team player, and is great fun to work with.

Jinzhong and I have spent 4+ years in the PhD program of Computer Science, The Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is two year more senior than I am. He demonstrates extraordinary presenting and writing skills by organizing large and complicated problems in a hierarchical structure explicitly. He was one of the few students that drafts reports and papers with very little typographical errors. In addition, Jinzhong has outstanding communication skill. He is able to connect with people of different backgrounds seamlessly.
