I worked in a number of areas at Motorola:* Software development for the first cellular switching system that Motorola developed.* Software development for a subsequent cellular switching system which was cancelled.* Software development for testing tools for the switching system and base site.* Requirements definition for two of the cellular switching systems Motorola has developed. While in system engineering, I worked defining requirements for Motorola's cellular switching systems. I worked in CDMA cellular technology involving the A1, ANSI-41, and ISUP protocols. We wrote our requirements specifications as documents using Framemaker or put the requirements into DOORS.While working in system engineering I also maintained the on line document library for our division at Motorola for a while. While in development at Motorola, I worked on a number of different projects. When I was in testing tools I worked for several years on a system written in Ada to automate the call processing test plans. I also created a small embedded system based on the VRTX operating system to simulate data links for switch and base site testing. And I was the lead engineer for the development for the load generation system for the cellular switching system. That system was written in C, running on a Sun UNIX platform. Show less

I first worked on development on the EMX 500, Motorola's first cellular switching system. That work was on Z80 processors using Z80 assembler and a high level language similar to PL1.Next I worked briefly on a new version of the switching system that was canceled for marketing reasons. On that project I wrote device drivers for an embedded UNIX System 5 system written in C.

At Bell Labs I worked in Holmdel, New Jersey on a system which monitored the T-carrier network. The system was based on a Hewlett Packard mini-computer. I also worked briefly in Naperville, Illinois on the number 4 ESS, the long distance toll switching system for the Bell System at the time. While in graduate school in mathematics at the University of Illinois I taught classes in algebra, calculus, and probability. I had full responsibility for preparing lessons, teaching the classes, and preparing and grading tests. The University just provided the text book, course syllabus, class room, and class roster, and then told me when the final exam was and when to turn in final grades.
