Mike Forster
Jim and I worked concurrently at Lockheed Martin in San Jose, California. For part of that time, Jim reported directly to me as his manager. As a senior manager I observed and kept aware of the significant successes of his project teams as they applied innovative technologies to solve some very difficult issues for Lockheed Martin's US government and other customers. Jim provided strong strategic leadership to division-wide technology committees addressing the future needs of Lockheed Martin and its customers. He planned, managed, and led the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of multiple applications. He worked collaboratively with departments across our division regarding budgeting, scheduling, resources, and staffing. Jim is knowledgeable about a more diverse set of technologies than anyone else I have known in my 38-year career as an engineer and manager. This knowledge covers systems and software architecture, applications, infrastructure, databases, and security. His knowledge is broad but also deep - he personally investigates and experiments with technologies, to fully understand and then apply the capabilities. He also very successfully leads and mentors teams of engineers to investigate and apply such technologies to solve difficult problems in creative ways.

Jim reported to me at Sonim, where was the Head of Information Technology for almost 3 years. As a recently public startup, Sonim was experiencing the growing pains of underdeveloped systems and a need to upgrade internal controls. Jim's broad knowledge and expertise was critical in both upgrading key systems globally and locking down access to valuable IP. He saved the company significant funds by consolidating multiple email, cloud storage and video conferencing applications into a single global standard. Through all these high level projects, Jim was never too busy to help an employee who was having difficulty with a laptop or a phone. He truly covered things end to end and took great pride in getting things done. Jim would be a valuable addition to any organization and I highly recommend him.
