I had the unique opportunity to sit in on Jim's Sports Journalism class at Benedictine University at Springfield. The students in class loved Jim as a professor. His teaching style coupled with his wealth of experience made every class session informative and entertaining. He shared lively stories which illustrated points being made in class from his many years of experience as a sports writer, editor and broadcaster. His hands-on curriculum gave students not only the opportunity to write, but to be critiqued by a veteran sports reporter. Jim's newspaper writing experience in tandem with his sports broadcasting experience make him a highly sought-after instructor. Best of all, he was quoted several times in the course textbook, Field Guide to Covering Sports by Joe Gisondi. One amusing quote: "More times then I'd like to remember I have asked school officials why they call it the press box if there's no room for the press.
