I have been in relationship with Blue Sea for many years. It began when I partnered with Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), in 2014, to help raise funds to launch a new social enterprise in Surrey BC - Cloverdale Community Kitchen (CCK). Since that first campaign and the annual campaigns since, CCK has become a leading community not-for-profit leveraging the strengths of many to make great things happen. The relationship between CCK and BS was transformative. I joined the BS team, in 2021, as a part-time contractor which led to an opportunity to shift to full time in 2022. The role aligns deeply with my convictions that "justice-oriented" relationships, for all people, should be pursued, despite the odds, with persistence and sacrifice. Show less

My role at FH provided outstanding opportunities to work with many leaders across Canada and to deepen my understanding of poverty alleviation internationally. This great organization in Canada raises critical funds to support efforts to come alongside international communities stuck in poverty to find their way to thriving in 10 years. I have witnessed many communities who are finding their way and those who have found their way to seeing a new reality where life-killing despair is replaced with tangible life-giving hope. I cherish this organization as they have cemented my understanding and convictions about the possibilities of transformation one community at a time. Though my focus is now turned toward local domestic initiatives, my learnings from FH's international work are substantial and significant as they reinforced and sharpened my raw learnings that emerged from my previous effort in launching the Cloverdale Community Kitchen in Surrey BC. A senior leadership role working with staff, church leaders, and congregational members to shape a dynamic community life of ministry and adventurous projects. Generally, my day includes the overseeing of human resources, facilities, and finances. Among those things, I lead out on new projects (Cloverdale Community Kitchen) preach regularly, and serve as a pastor within our congregation's life events. It is a full plate of great things. The Christian Reformed Church in British Columbia provides a lay leadership training program led by Wilma Van Der Leek. The program provides a three-year program for aspiring Christian leaders to develop their competencies and enable them to serve in significant leadership positions. I have taught three classes around themes of leadership that integrate valuable practical insight rooted in a compelling biblical framework such as: 1) How to run meetings; 2) Understanding your leadership type; 3) Reading, Understanding and Using Scripture. In between two pastoral roles I worked in the floral industry. We sold and we bought flowers. Early hours at the floral auction was where we purchased and then shipped out to customers all over BC and Alberta. I did everything from purchasing, shipping, trucking, packing, and selling. It was a great challenge and a great place to thrive. In between two pastoral roles I worked in the floral industry. We sold and we bought flowers.
