I fill one of the anchor positions at Lucion Technologies, makers of FileCenter. We began as two guys. We resolved to keep the company small and efficient, taking on most of the responsibilities ourselves instead of bloating the staff. Despite keeping our operation small and tight, we grew into a leading solution for the SMB tier while maintaining very high profit margins with a skeleton staff. We achieved this through three guiding principles: 1) clean, easy software that explains itself, 2) plenty of self-help resources when needed, and 3) smart automation on the operations side to absorb mundane tasks. All three principles fall under my umbrella. I remain deeply involved in the evolution of our software. Good software design matters to me, mostly because I have a drive to simplify complex tasks and provide elegant tools to solve sticky problems. If I learn about a customer pain-point, it urges me to continue to improve the software, software which many already call the most natural and effortless that they use. When a user requires additional help, the user must feel empowered to find their own answers. Why? Because an educated user base relieves the company of a huge, unnecessary burden. No company should have to carry users who can walk. To this end, I authored all of our written manuals as well as a series of free video tutorials aimed at making the users feel comfortable exploring the software on their own. As a result, we support a large, satisfied user base with a minimal support department. This same drive to simplify and streamline applies to our back-end operations, all of which fall under my care. I designed our CRM system to make our sales and support teams as efficient as possible. I built our website on a custom platform in order to keep it clean, maintenance-free, and honed to our exact needs. All client interactions, from lead acquisition to ongoing maintenance, happen through automated systems I designed to eliminate unnecessary tasks.

Document Automation Consultant
-
Apr 1999 - Oct 2002
I worked with law firms around the country, providing them with one of the most interesting technologies to hit the legal field in decades: document automation. Specifically, I took a law firm's legal forms and programmed them into self-generating legal documents, imbued with the lawyers' own expertise. Law firms could then generate even complex documents by just answering a series of questions, eliminating the need for every document to be drafted by hand. I taught the university's beginning Portuguese class. This included organizing a course, breaking it into daily lesson plans, and coming up with all of the course materials. But the part I especially looked forward to, class after class, was the daily teaching and interaction with the students, helping them grasp difficult grammar concepts and feel the satisfaction of learning another language. On-Air Radio Personality
-
Aug 1984 - Aug 1986
I enjoyed being an on-air radio personality for the leading radio station in the market. While this meant I had to get comfortable sending my voice out live to thousands and thousands of listeners, I still relish the confidence it gave me being behind a microphone. To this day, a microphone will still spark me to life and put me in one of my favorite elements. I enjoyed being an on-air radio personality for the leading radio station in the market.
