I was previously a teacher of Business Studies at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School for Boys, Liverpool which has approximately 1600 students on role. In September 2012, I was asked to take on additional duties in acting as co-head of Business. I had particular responsibility for KS4 GCSE Business and co-manage the KS5 curriculum. This was as a result of the strong development and leadership qualities that I have shown during my time with Cardinal Heenan.I was particularly assigned the responsibility for GCSE as I am an exam marker for the Edexcel exam board for the GCSE Business paper and have now taken on the role of Team Leader of other exam markers. I have been an examiner for the last 4 years and this enabled me to share this experience and knowledge with my colleagues in the Business department at Cardinal Heenan. Overall, results in the Business department were amongst the best in the school and in the last exam series (June 2014) were in the top 4 of the school. The results that I have achieved with students have increased year on year.• At GCSE over 75% of students have consistently gained A*-C grades.• At GCSE, 56% of high achievers achieved 3+ levels of progress with 26% achieving 4+ levels. There was also a similar figure for Gifted and Talented students.• IFS Personal Finance was a new course introduced in 2012. 42% achieved A*- A and 84% A*-C. This was much higher than expected with 84% achieving higher than their target grade. • 75% of prior low achievers achieved 5+ levels of progress with 85% of middle prior achievers achieving 3+, 77% achieving 4+ and 38% achieving 5+ levels of progress. • At GCE Applied Business A2 –63% achieved better than their target grade with 42% achieving A*-B and 100% A*-E. • At GCE Applied Business –100% of candidates achieved A* -EI graduated with QTS status in July 2010 and was graded as outstanding.
