As a Senior Public Health Assistant in the Vital Records Office, I was the main point-of-contact for the public to receive birth certificates, death certificates, fetal death certificates, informational certificates and burial permits out of our office. I worked closely with the Shasta County Coroner's Office and our local funeral homes, as well as some out-of-county funeral homes, to determine the best possible information for each death certificate. I issued all burial permits for Shasta County, as well as some for other areas in California. I also reported all Confidential Morbidity Reports that are unrelated to communicable disease and send them on to the DMV. I kept in close contact with our local hospitals and supported them in the production of birth certificates before I registered them with the state. I kept a good working relationship with local midwives, conducted interviews and produced all birth certificates for any Shasta County baby born outside of a hospital facility. I also communicated regularly with CDPH Vital Records in matters of birth and death.I kept detailed billing records for all of our local funeral homes, all private pay billing and all out-of-county funeral homes. I was responsible for sending billing to the funeral homes, collecting payment and forwarding all information to our Business and Support office for a final check before it was taken to the state level. In addition, I produced detailed training lists for future employees and detailed duty lists in an attempt to make the office more efficient. I notarized documents for our customers when necessary. I also trained an extra help employee to handle the duties of an office clerk and trained the full-time office clerk when she began in that office. I also performed other duties as needed.
