Jilian is a person I have learned a lot from as a colleague from Cañada College. As the retention specialist for the Extended Opportunity Program Services (EOPS) and Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI), and Dreamers, Jilian can connect well with students from various ethnic groups. We have a team of six retention specialists on campus, we continuously collaborate to support students' needs. Her work is not easy as a retention specialist with the cohort of students she has to work with, but she can manage it well! She inspires students to continue with their education! Students and staff can easily reach out to Jilian and rely on her support with students who have had the worse experiences. Jilian knows how to ease their concerns and walk them through their goals. At the same time, she continuously collaborates with various departments to ensure that we are closing the equity gaps improving retention and graduate rates!

In the summer of 2016, I had the chance of having Ms.Gómez as my internship supervisor. Not only did she demonstrate her support over the summer, but she also continued to support my journey throughout my college years. She has never judged anyone's dreams and believed everyone's capability. For this reason, I was able to continue my journey knowing that Ms.Gómez will be my mentor. I can always count on her for advice. Her passion, resilience, and nonjudgemental nature were one of the biggest reasons why I feel secure talking about my future and distress.
