Jim is that perfect blend of creative genius and mad scientist that makes things happen. He was always able to find new ways to do things and bring all of the people he was working with along with him to make them better as well. His passion for solving technical problems and stretching the boundaries of what we were capable of made him a cornerstone of any team he worked with. His rare combination of visual and creative abilities coupled with the technical knowledge to bring them to life truly make him a rare and valuable person to work with.

Jim is an energetic and passionate individual who is also one of the brightest people I've had the pleasure of working with. I was able to work with him on two different projects where he was an internal consultant/expert for advanced rendering features that were needed . Jim delivered well on these and was enjoyable to work with while doing so. Jim was a major contributor and driver to the company's internal community in his discipline and I was sad to see him go. I look forward to being able to work with Jim in the future.

There aren't many Jims out there. Anyone can optimize code. But very few people know when the light falloff looks wrong, and know how to fix it. Jim's unique talent is that he understand why something looks good (or doesn't look good) and then has technical chops to find brilliant ways to fix them. The classic case in point is the filmic curve approximation, where he developed a rational polynomial to simulate the response curve of film, and is one of the key techniques that I use to this day.
