I joined G&D as a Support Engineer in the midst of a total reorganization of the team where I lead support to large and demanding customers as well as small customers with different, specific needs. I helped restore relationships, solved issues and developed monitoring tools which elicited very positive feedback from customers.

As an intern at TV Globo's R&D department I began by polishing my C++ programming skills and getting acquainted with Microsoft's Visual Studio environment and MFC programming, through internal training conducted by the researchers who work at the department. After the training phase, I developed several tools for use in the platforms already in place, such as plugins for some of the companies proprietary software, a webservice to simplify the interaction between client applications and the server databases, among others. During the final months of my internship I studied video coding standards (such as H264), protocols for adaptive internet video streaming (RTMP, HDS, HLS, MPEG-DASH) and the available market solutions for live and adaptive streaming of video content, and developed (jointly with and supervised by one of the departments senior researchers) a live encoding and streaming application attaining superior video quality and at a lower cost in comparison to the commercially available solutions. In this project I have gained experience with live video coding (including the use of FFmpeg's libraries), video capture through API programming for Matrox and Blackmagic DeckLink video cards, and the set up of streaming media servers such as Flash Media Server and Wowza Media Server. At the Automatc Control Lab I worked on the implementation of wireless process control to experimentally validate theory and techniques devised by the faculty, post-docs and PhD candidates. The work involved modelling systems, scripting, and programming on MATLAB, Simulink and LabVIEW, as well as C and nesC programming for embedded systems on wireless devices (motes) for wireless sensor networks and some simpler analog and digital circuit design. I was also responsible for demonstrations to students and in conferences and provided technical support to the teaching assistants. Show less

Conducted undergraduate level research at UFRJ's Signal Processing Lab on the development of linear and non-linear models for diagnosis support of pleural tuberculosis. The models were based on artificial neural networks and linear transformations. The data was provided by the Tuberculosis Academical Program of the University Hospital, and results were validated by the medical experts in that research group. The work was conducted using MATLAB.
