As VP of Engineering, JF was an great asset for Fabule. It's unusual to find someone who has the experience to be a competent manager AND has recently gotten their hands dirty coding and is totally up to date on all the best practices and frameworks -- JF is that unicorn. He is really really good at getting the big picture -- the business goals, the product goals, the customer experience -- and applying all that context to prioritizing day to day feature development. He codes fast and well. He hugely improved our Scrum game. He's honest and opinionated, but not gratuitously opinionated. He gets what matters. It was a pleasure having him on our team.

As a first real developer job after graduating, I learned a lot at Tektronix. Starting as an intern and then a full time developer, I became proficient in C++ by coding VoIP test equipment that would gather and report call quality metrics. It was also an amazing opportunity to put my math skills to good use, as I did a lot of audio signal processing. For example, I was able to optimize performance of part of the pipeline by 100x, switching from naive convolutions to optimized filters. In terms of coding, I learned asynchronous programming, multiple protocols (MGCP, RTP, RTCP, H.323,etc), but most important of all, I learned to develop on a real product, with real users, in a context where there is a large legacy code base. From this, I learned the value and benefit of refactoring. Finally, this is where for the first time I truly lived in a full Linux environment. I learned bash, gcc, vim, etc. This has followed me to this day, and I still feel at home in front of a bash prompt.
