Specialising in Family Law, both privately funded and legally aided. I have worked alongside King's Counsel and enjoy undertaking advocacy on behalf of my Client's.

    • Trainee Solicitor
      • Feb 2017 - Dec 2018

Whilst undertaking my LPC and MSc, I am also completing my training contract. Commencing in February 2017, I have undertaken seats in Family, Litigation and the Conveyancing Department and have now moved to my final seat in the Private Client and Probate Department. During my time in my first seat, I undertook a vast amount of court work supporting Counsel, preparing documents, conducting interviews and supporting Client's. I was involved in cases including fraud, medium scale drug supply, rape, historic sexual assault and most recently a Court Martial matter. I have recently completed my second seat in Conveyancing which entailed a range of work including both registered and unregistered land. Whilst in the department, I was faced with complex issues which I worked with colleague and Local Council Departments to resolve, expanded my awareness of Money Laundering Regulations and obtained a firm grasp of the process of residential transactions.I am keen to expand my skill set and commercial awareness and anticipate that my new seat will allow me to do so. • Sep 2013 - Jun 2014

PAL, which abbreviates Peer Assisted Learning, involves providing a structured environment for second year law students in which they are able to receive guidance on academic aspects of student life. This includes course and module content, and also practical skills such as debating and public speaking. As a PAL leader, this role involves planning and delivering a one hour session each week to groups of students which vary in size. So far, this position has enabled me to improve my team work skills, by leading group sessions and discussions whilst encouraging participation from the students. This position has also enabled me to improve my self-confidence and helped me to recognise my own strengths and weaknesses. Show less

      • Sep 2012 - Sep 2013

Working for St James's Place has been an invaluable experience.Whilst this company primarily deals with wealth management and financial advice, legal issues are also encountered. By shadowing and observing my employer, I have become more aware of aspects such as Investments, Inheritance Tax, and Probate. During this role I was given a range of lresponsibilities. I processed applications for investments, and liaised with clients both face to face and over the phone. I also observed numerous client meetings and undertook research. I 'looked after' the office whilst the office manager was on maternity leave, which was a great responsibility but one I feel I carried out to a high standard. I also represented the company at numerous shows, which again has been an invaluable experience. Show less

    • Carer for child with additional needs
      • Aug 2010 - Dec 2011

Whilst this position is not a legal one, I feel that the experience I gained from this position and the skills I built upon during this time have been vital to my academic progress. During this position, I provided personal and social care for a young adult with severe learning difficulties. This was a very challenging, but rewarding, post and I still remain in contact with the family. I was able to build upon my patience with tasks during this role, and also my time management skills. I also came to learn the important of team work and communication during this time, and I have continued to build on these skills since. Show less

My desire to work within the legal profession was confirmed by this work experience. I shadowed a partner of the firm. The partner specialised in Family Law, but I was also able to spend time in the Conveyancing Department. I sat in on client interviews and took notes and I also attended a client case at Exeter Crown Court. I undertook research and produced a skeleton argument for this case.
