After working on multiple projects with Jessica over the past few years, I can confidently say that Jessica's intellect, work ethic, and leadership is unmatched. For example, when Jessica led a hackathon team for a hackathon she took the initiative to set up recurring working sessions before the hackathon, worked diligently throughout the hackathon, and continued her efforts long afterwards as well. Simultaneously, she made sure all of her teammates' talents were maximized and drove a solution that captured all of the talent. The back bone of the hackathon solution was her wicked R skills to piece together multiple open data sets, predicted overdoses at a county-level, and multi-dimensional data visualization. As a final note, I wholeheartedly support Jessica in any of her ventures and I congratulate you if you ever get to work with her.

Jessica was one of my lead data scientists on a consulting engagement. Jessica was an unbelievable resource to have on the team. On this project, we pushed the envelope on some newer open source tools, and her technical prowess was really able to shine. She combined a mix of mathematic and computer science knowledge to help develop a productionalized platform, based on open source technologies, that incorporated an array of predictive and optimization models into a snazzy usable tool. She was phenomenal interacting with clients and understanding their needs and was an incredible teammate. She was able to understand the big picture of what the project was trying to accomplish, helped drive and lead the team's development and collaboration processes, and deliver outstanding work week after week. I could not speak more highly of her, the value she brings to a team, and the incredible quality of the work she produces.

CENTER FOR PUBLIC HEALTH GENOMICS Increased automation and reduced human error during analysis of genomic data from 3 different microarrays with unique needs. Collaborated with UVA’s BioConnector to train researchers within the community. Designed scripts combining available toolsets to improve allele calling for rare SNPs on the HumanExome BeadChip. Performed gender, relationship, and population checking on large data sets of up to 70,000 samples, some with over 540,000 genetic markers. Developed VBA Excel macros for use by wet-lab personnel to facilitate the transfer of genetic material to OGT plates. Significantly improved preparation processing time of data shipments of compressed image data files and raw data to individual labs. Designed program to cycle between third-party analytical and graphing programs to perform automated conditional analysis on T1D GWAS case/control data drawn from the Immunochip. Generated programs to smooth the pipeline between collection and analysis of genomic data. Produced graphs to illustrate output at different stages of analysis. PSYCHIATRY AND NEURO-BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES Streamlined and automated the process of cleaning and analyzing court data, improving efficiency by 200% through use of scripting in SPSS and Access. Constructed and continually maintained two databases to store and analyze monthly data received from the Virginia General District Courts regarding mental commitment proceedings; Followed up with court regarding discrepancies in case data. Produced annual reports of the analysis findings which were presented to the Virginia state legislature. Show less
