The primary goals of this research is to gain additional understanding about the mechanisms that are involved in anosognosia, or the lack of or impaired awareness of one's illness. Through a series of experiments including standardized daily living tasks, questionnaires and psychophysiological assessment we are assessing impairments in global and online performance monitoring as well as cognitive impairment. In addition to this project I also manage the CPB laboratory (http://cpb.ucsf.edu/). The CPB is a multi-user pyschophysiology laboratory in the neuroscience research unit at UCSF. This lab is equipped with a full range of physiological collection equipment including EKG, facial EMG, skin conductance, respiration, photoplethysmography, cardiac impedance, and pupil response. All data collected is time synched with audio visual recordings of participants and is able to be coded and matched with an observed behavioral responses. We run a range of software including Biopac, Noldus Observer and Media Recorder and Eprime. I maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade all existing equipment and software as well as research and integrate any additional elements as needed by research design. I also train any new users, maintain and establish vendor relationships and assist in facilitating any new partnerships with the lab.
