I assist Partners for Fish and Wildlife (PFW) biologists with habitat restoration planning and implementation. I manage the Information and Technology (IT) resources for Virginia Ecological Services which includes leading website management for the Virginia Field Office, Southwestern Virginia Field Office, and Appalachian Partnership Coordination Office; managing the GIS system for the Virginia Field Office and providing GIS technical assistance to other biologists; creating maps for project planning and design; creating and editing data layers for use in the office’s on-line project review process for federally listed species; and performing GIS analysis for environmental studies. For example, I recently completed a network analysis of permitted discharges from coal mining operations and their proximity to federally listed species downstream. I review habitat restoration projects for potential impacts to federally listed species and historical resources. I serve as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Northeast Region HabITS (reporting database for PFW program) workgroup representative. I prepare grant applications for habitat restoration projects. I have completed a GAP analysis on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to identify priority land parcels for voluntary habitat protection activities. I supervised a graduate student volunteer, assisting with her Masters of Geographic Information Systems capstone project. Show less
