- Designed and taught Reading and Writing (Intermediate and High-Beginning), Writing Workshop (all levels) Grammar (Beginning), Pronunciation and Introduction to Technology (Beginning Pathways Cohort) courses. -Intentionally selected novels that reflected the diverse backgrounds of my students (residents, immigrants, and refugees from all over the world), including A Long Walk to Water, Shooting Kabul and Seedfolks. -Participated in the Acceleration College each semester at Laney, working collaboratively with with the other instructors of my level in a Community of Practice in order to design effective course materials and assessments. -Connected course content to students’ real worlds by developing activities like the Shooting Kabul photo gallery, visit to Laney’s community garden, and writing letters to show our support for Laney Garden after reading Seedfolks and learning about the benefits of gardening. -Collaborated with Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) and college counselors to help students with learning differences succeed. -Created and administered diagnostic, placement, and promotional testing and assessment of ESOL students. -Developed activities and rubrics to assess Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for reading, writing, pronunciation and technology, and performed SLO assessments. -Monitored student performance in order to make informed decisions about accelerating students based on a variety of formative and summative assessments. -Assisted with the Immigrants and Refugees’ Rights forum at Laney College in response to the recent “Travel Ban” in order to support our students’ sense of belonging and safety at our sanctuary campus. -Co-taught and designed the curriculum for a summer immersion program for a group of 20 students from China. -Worked on the Design Team to develop ESOL curriculum in an effort to create a “bridge to credit classes” from Adult School by offering noncredit ESOL classes at Laney.
