  Horizons National is an award-winning summer program with a mission to close the achievement gap for disadvantaged students on private school and university campuses across the country. These private-public partnerships offer greater opportunities for academic success and confidence-building experiences, making students career-ready and college bound. Horizons at Woodward Academy welcomed its first class of kindergarteners from Mt. Olive Elementary School, in East Point, Georgia, in the summer of 2012. The students will return each summer and a new class will be added until it is a full capacity K-8 Summer Program. I am proud to lead this incredibly important purpose for Woodward and our surrounding community. In the classroom, I focus on student-centered learning with multi-modal approach for diverse learners. My instructional practice includes hands-on activities, creative projects that move STEM to STEAM, direct instruction in Habits of Mind/ Growth Mindset, TED talks and technology. Students engage in discussion, group work and research for deeper levels of understanding. Show less
