Independently planned and conducted qualitative research. Employed the participant-observation method to research subject/object interactions in coffee shops. Analyzed qualitative data using open coding. The final report, "Power Play in Coffee Shops: Public and Undefined Spaces in Structuring Ownership," considers displays of belonging by consumer and barista in cultivating cultural indications of communal space, and found that communal space in semi-private places is often commodified and personalized through financial and physical displays of power.
