As a Business Improvement Coach, I reported directly to Jessica, who was Manager of Continuous Process Improvement at Algonquin College. She would often accompany me as I coached a Senior Executive, acting as "second coach" to observe and critique my competency in moving an executive closer to their goal. Jessica would sit silently, observing during my coaching, and immediately after, we would find a quiet spot to dissect the exchange in terms of what techniques worked well, and where there were opportunities for improvement in my coaching skill. What I most valued during these exchanges was a feeling of mutual respect, and trust. When we trust the person providing constructive criticism, we are far more likely to receive the message with an open heart and mind. This speaks to psychological safety between an employee and their leader, and opens lines of communication. Also refreshing in these exchanges was Jessica's openness to learning, and taking on different perspectives. Sometimes, in the position of coach or counsellor, there is an expectation that one must be an expert, and have the last word - Jessica was open to new ways of thinking and doing, and this made it a learning experience for us both. Jessica's style is engaging, empathetic, supportive, and creative. I am excited about her new venture #Lighthouse Counselling & Wellness and recommend her services.

In my role as a Lean Business Improvement Coach I had the good fortune of working with Jessica. Included in Jessica’s role as my manager, was her work as my coach. As my coach Jessica had the ability to look at a situation and understand where relationships could be strengthened. She conveyed her observations and suggested improvements, in such a way, I always felt empowered to become a better coach in my own right. As a coach, Jessica utilizes observation and reflection to help an individual or organization reach a better understanding of their personal or organizational goals. She is foremost kind, intuitive and insightful allowing the people she coaches to feel they are moving towards a place of empowerment and strength.
