Over the summer I mostly worked in the field doing population studies on Panax ginseng looking at population genetics and changes in phenology. I then moved into lab work on ginsenoside extraction in order to find connections between these secondary compounds and genetic markers. My research focused on analyzing ginsenoside profiles in populations of ginseng throughout WNC to better understand ginsenosides and how they're related to genetic factors in the plant. Hopefully this research will be added upon to help understand the genetic diversity of ginseng and preserve this species for field cultivation. Show less

For the first two years of my employment here I created a variety of events to engage students in campus activities. These activites helped facilitate the transition between high school and college for underclassmen as well as encourage a healthy environemtn to connect to the campus community. Examples: Pumpkin Carving Event, movies on the quad, Murder Mystery Dinner, etc.In 2017 I was the Social Media Coordinator and was in charge of promoting events online and encouraging students to become more active on our social media sites. As the Employment Coordinator, I helped filter students in and out of employment with interviews, training, and orientations. Using organizational skills and knowledge of the department I assisted in orienting new hires to SAIL and their position along with refining training. I also provided a unique student perspective to the professional staff to gear the employment process more towards students and their needs.

Zipline Guide

While performing zipline tours through the beautiful Green River Gorge, as I guide I had to educate guests about local flora and fauna as well as look out for the general safety of the group as well. While entertaining and educating guests were a part of our job, safety was our priority with each guide having to perform emergency rescues and care while keeping control of the situation. It could occasionally be a high stress environment, but it was mostly fun outside!
