This project more formally shifted my career towards Instructional Design and science / biomimicry communication. In this time, I was involved in the co-development of an online course on the topic of biomimicry for a large, South African corporate company. This role included the following tasks: planning and preparation for the course, creating of the visual identity, design of digital handbooks, research and documentation for all visual assets and case studies and co-directing of the videos. I was also involved in the upload of the content onto the LMS, but to a lesser degree. Show less

TRS is a specialist visual merchandising design agency, and our clients included a number of well-known South African retailers. Being in a small agency, my role was more diversified than usual. I worked as a graphic designer, DTP / FA designer, art director and part-time copywriter. We covered the end-to-end process of VM; from developing briefs with the client, to store visits to check the production and installation of the work. Varied though it was, the aspect of the job that I enjoyed the most was research, concept development and copywriting. Show less

My role at KingJames agency was that of a middle-weight designer and DTP artist. I was responsible for designing and setting up finished artwork for major South African brands; Johnnie Walker, Bells, Burger King, Parmalat, Simonsberg, Steri Stumpie, Everfresh, Melrose, Galaxy & Co., Allan Gray, Santam, Sanlam, and Europcar. I got to work on a wide variety of projects and learned about the different types of DTP set up for a wide variety of applications including booklets, packaging, busses, and promo stands. Being at a through-the-line agency gave me a good understanding of how an integrated campaign gets rolled out across multiple forms of media (radio, tv, online, print), and how to communicate with staff from the different departments. Additionally, I learned to appreciate the beauty of a well-executed timing plan, a thorough brief, and what it takes to manage and co-ordinate a project that consists of many moving parts. Show less
