It was my role to help create and implement strategies for the department, plan the critical path for each category and ensure margin and spend targets were accurately forecast and met. I would take ultimate responsibility for setting budgets pre season, presenting selection meetings and providing trade reports, as well as liaising with senior team members and directors in retail VM, branded, product systems and other departments on Home to update them on upcoming projects and challenges. It was important for me to work closely with my Buyer, Designer and senior Technologist to provide a well forecast range with sufficient stock to back the trends, working with the best suppliers in the industry. It was also important to me to be able to remain reactive to trends, whilst also ensuring good stock cover on best selling lines. During my time on the department we significantly improved stock levels and delivery issues we had faced during the pandemic, shortened lead times by utilising a better supply base, restructured and analysed a category to relaunch a brand new range and also oversaw the launch and analysis of a high profile new category, Skincare.

As I progressed, I became more involved with planning new ranges for new seasons, carrying out analysis to specifically understand which areas of the department were and weren't working and making suggestions for ways to improve our product and increase sales. I moved teams to Men's Soft Accessories after 9 months and was then promoted after 3 months on this team to Assistant Merchandiser, having had more exposure to selection meetings and being more involved in the selection process.
